12:07 pm: It's True....
After 3 years of law school, 3 months of bar studying and 3+ months of temping/unemployment, I finally have a job.

I was called yesterday and offered a position as a Deputy District Attorney with Washington County. And I start tomorrow!

It's really exciting to have the opportunity to do what I love in an office that I love and with people that I love.

Several of my friends are still waiting on jobs/offers - please keep them in your thoughts, if that's your thing... :) They are fantastic and I know their moments are just around the corner!

So, today I'm going to enjoy my last day of unemployment by sipping coffee and knitting a stocking, and maybe sitting in the hot tub for awhile (although there's a workman doing work here at my house, so the sitting in the hot tub in my bikini thing is questionable....).

05:56 pm: Appropriate Horoscope for this week...
Courtesy of Rob Breszny:

Pisces Horoscope for week of November 16, 2006

A cat doesn't usually catch a mouse on its first pounce. On average, the kill takes three pounces. I hope this fun fact inspires you to avoid the temptation to prematurely retire from your hunt. It's true that the treasure you're pursuing has eluded you beyond the time you thought you would have gotten it. It's also true that the frustration you're feeling threatens to dilute the intense concentration you need to complete the quest. But now that you've read my exhortation, maybe you'll see that you're closer to capturing the prize than you realize; maybe you'll marshal your energy and prime yourself to pounce as many more times as it'll take.

I turned down the job offer I had yesterday. It was a really, really difficult decision, but in the end, I think it's the right choice. Now i need to gear up for the interview I have tomorrow and hope that I haven't underprepared or overthought it!

01:00 pm: Another exciting update...
So, I'm not sure if I made con law my "bitch," but 3 hours and 14 pages later, I certainly finished it...

So, here's an update of what needs to be done before I can graduate... arguably before the end of finals period, this Friday...

I have to write REVISE my "A paper," a 40(ISH) page paper of "Publishable quality," including a "substantial rewrite component" after having it examined by an advisor.

I have to edit my 8 page paper of non-law, touch-feely psycho-babble for Family Business Law Seminar.

I have to write a 12 page paper for Family Business Law Seminar, which I plan to do after interview the family which owns Holman's Funeral Services, the 78th oldest family business in the United States and located right her in Portland, Oregon. ('Spose I should ask if it's okay to do a case study on them!) (Of course, when I spoke with the owner of Holman's, I learned the last of the Holman's recently died and the new owner didn't know enough to tell me about the history for a 12 pg. paper, so I ended up writing about The Longaberger Company - WOO BASKETS! WOO OHIO! WOO 40+ HOURS AWAKE!)

I have to take my Constitutional Law II final.

I have to take my White Collar Crime Seminar final.

I have to teach 3 more classes at Franklin High School and finish my "journal."

I have to work 1 more week.

So, just the "A Paper" to finish, or as my good friend, Randi, calls it, "The Nasty."   *sigh*

If only I could buy enough focus to really buckle down these next three days...   So far, it's not looking good, but...  here's hoping!

And then, my family arrives in 9 days!   WEEEEIIIIIII!!!!!

12:08 pm: Law School Exams
I am about to take my last law school exam EVAH. (of course, barring any unfortunate outcomes with exams...)

Constitutional Law II - you will be my bitch, and I will take you down... hopefully..

To prepare, I bought a law school sweatshirt and law school t-shirts for my peanuts... Nothing to soothe the soul like spending some money, eh??

Think happy thoughts for me!

11:29 pm: So Close!!
Friday I had my last law school class evah!  (barring any unforseen, unfortunate final grades...)

A few weeks ago, I posted a list of everything I needed to do before I'm officially done (which has to happen before May 12th!)

So, I figured that I would update that list!!  YAY!

I have to write REVISE my "A paper," a 40(ISH) page paper of "Publishable quality," including a "substantial rewrite component" after having it examined by an advisor.

I have to edit my 8 page paper of non-law, touch-feely psycho-babble for Family Business Law Seminar.

So, things are looking up AND I figured out why the rich text setting wasn't working (darn you safari) and now I have some Mozilla Firefox action on my computer, so expect more fun strike-out-filled updates in the future.

03:20 pm: Boring Boring Boring (Vomit!)
I am less than a month away from being finished with Law School. (VOMIT!)

I have to write my "A paper," a 40 page paper of "Publishable quality" including a "substantial rewrite component" after having it examined by an advisor.

I have to edit my 8 page paper of non-law, touch-feely psycho-babble for Family Business Law Seminar.

I have to take my White Collar Crime Seminar final.

I have to teach 3 more classes at Franklin High School and finish my "journal."

I have to work 1 more week.

(VOMIT VOMIT!)

I can't believe I'm so close to finishing... I've devoted the last three years of my life to law school and the prospect of finishing is thrilling and nauseating by turns.

I am sitting here writing a draft of my "A paper." It's a good thing that it requires a "substantial rewrite"! It is about restraining orders and discovery. And as I sit here writing, I am having a hard time with pronouns. I apparently have some sort of preconditioning to believe that the respondent to a restraining order will always be male, and the petitioner will always be female. I am trying to avoid referring to the respondent or petitioner as any particular sex and having a REALLY hard time without repeating "petitioner" or "respondent" several thousands times!

Oh well... Back to work.. 5 pages done - 35 to go!!

08:28 pm: My love/hate relationship with food
I am so frustrated...

So since moving to Oregon 2 1/2 years ago, I've lost over 40 pounds. I'm the thinnest I've been since the 6th grade. And it feels great, aside from the fact that I a shit ton of clothes that are now giant on me... The first 20 pounds I lost slowly over the first year and a half, with the majority of it coming off after I quit smoking and started running. The last 20 pounds I've lost in the last 6-8 months without much effort. Stress and life changes just kind of took it's toll on me with positive results.

So, regardless of how much smaller my body is now, my abs are still a mess. I've never had strong abdominal muscles and after an abdominal hernia surgery in college I really just stopped trying. It hurt. And now, in just a little over the month I'm heading to Jamaica with some girlfriends for Spring Break. And because I've lost so much weight, I've suddenly decided that maybe I can wear a bikini in jamaica... It would be the first time I've worn a bikini since I was like 7.

But, I don't think I'll reach my goal. First of all, i can't freaking keep myself away from cookies and ice cream... and burgers... and fries... I have these huge food cravings and then I'm riddled with guilt even thinking about eating! And I've been doing 50 minutes of pilates every day since Saturday. But I'm just not seeing any results. I know I'm not going to be a supermodel after 4 days of Pilates, but is it doing anything?! Should I be wasting my time even trying?! It's so frustrating to keep doing it and not seeing any results. Everyday I stare at myself in the mirror looking for even the tiniest improvement...

ARGGGGGGGGGG.

Anyone know of any good ab workouts?? Or cute tankinis?? I mean, I'm going to jamaica with some of the most beautiful women I know... I need to at least TRY to keep up...

    12:37 pm: Alright, Alright...
So, I got a nudge from joe and so I'll post. It will be an incredibly BORING post, but I need some advice with something I'm struggling with! My SCHEDULE!

so far this semester, I've been going to 16 credits worth of class. I only need 10 to graduate. AND I have this big paper to write in order to graduate.... So, I'm trying to develop a schedule which is both interesting, but not unduly burdensome, and I'm having a hard time deciding which classes to take. So, here are the options, as well as when they are scheduled and the amount of credits they are worth...

Street Law - where I teach high school students about the law - NO FINAL - 3 credits - Mon 4-6pm
Jurisprudence of Property - with my favorite professor, going to be a great class but A LOT of work - FINAL - 3 credits - Mon/Wed 6-7:30
Wills and Trusts - I feel like I should take this class, but I've only heard bad things about it - FINAL - 3 credits - Mon/Wed 8-9:30p
Family Business Seminar - EASY class, from all accounts - 3 minimal papers - NO FINAL - 2 credits - Tues 6-8pm
    Constitutional Law II - I HAVE TO TAKE THIS! - FINAL - 3 credits - Wed/Fri 9-10:30am
White Collar Crime Seminar - Should be a good class, although maybe hard - FINAL - 2 credits - Thurs 6-8p

The schedule that I've kind of outlined as of late is as follows:
    Street Law
    Family Business Seminar
    Con Law II
    White Collar Crime Seminar
